So yesterday, I went online as I had heard that there might be some info about the upcoming law school 2009 entry class. Eureka - it was there! Not only did they have the schedule posted, some of which is tentative of course, but they also had lots of answers to lots of other questions.
Yesterday plus two months (8/20) yours truly will officially become a student again. It's been a long time since I was last in school, and I bet I've had about 250 questions about this since I decided to go for it. The most common question lately, which has been sort of funny really, has been, "So, how's law school going so far?" I say it's funny, since I haven't yet begun law school, although everyone, even my own parents, have asked me this several times over the past two months. I suppose some just mean the process of it all and not the actual school itself. Some I think really think that I have already started, as those tend to look at me rather strangely when I let them know that I haven't yet started. I have had the question twice today, and it's a Sunday. As I don't talk to many people on Sunday (since most everyone with whom I converse are at work, and we don't work on Sunday), it's weird that I would have this question twice today. One was my Dad, and the other was another family member.
I've been talking with some folks who are 2Ls this year. One is in summer school, and the other isn't at present. I do wonder if I'll want to do summer school. There are pros and cons. Pros are getting out earlier, getting into the field sooner, and keeping the momentum going with school. Cons are that it costs more (since I get tuition reimbursement for only a certain, set dollar amount per fiscal year July - June), the market isn't that great for legal grads right now (hoping that will change once I get out), and that I wouldn't have summers off. I'm sure I'll have a better idea of my thoughts on this decision when it gets to that point in the spring where I must decide.
Either way, I've heard we're in Section 21. I think that's pretty cool. 21 is like the freedom age. 21 is a great movie. 21 is what you want to achieve in blackjack. 21 being the freedom age has always baffled me honestly. I mean, what difference does one day make on whether you can legally consume alcohol or not? You can be drafted, but you can't drink a beer. Seems a little off-kilter if you ask me. Either way, I'm happy about being 21. It just sounds cool.
Books - this is a big question. I know they will tell us soon what books we need. I hope that I can find some used books, either from someone at school, online, or from a friend. I'm sure I'll find some, but as I'm part-time and have a job, it also cuts down on the time I have to look for that sort of thing to a certain degree.
We have a busy summer coming up. One of our girls just got back from Girl Scout Camp for two weeks, one just got back from Vegas with a friend's family, and our son is going with me to Philly at the end of the week. We don't have a ton on tap for July, although the girls will need to go to their mom's house for her two weeks, one wants to go to her aunt's house for a week, to my parents' for a week, to her grandmother's for a week, and then to a friend's for a week. I think the other one will go as well on those adventures, but on at least one, she won't. That just about fills up the month if it all goes like they want, as I'm sure at least one of those won't pan out in the end. Then, August we're to Anaheim for a week on business, and then I start orientation four days after we get back from Anaheim. Wow! It will be here before I know it.
